Fgas Refrigerant Handling Award

2 Day Course Fee €575 & Registration Fee €40.
This 2 days course should be complemented with on-the-job coaching over 4 weeks.
The award has been designed to evaluate if the learner has the relevant knowledge, skill, and competence to handle fluorinated greenhouse gas (Fgas) refrigerants safely, with due care for the environment and in compliance with European Commission (EC) and national regulations, whilst working on their own initiative and without supervision.

The Fgas Regulations (EC 303:2008) states that it is an offence to work with refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump equipment without appropriate certification. Included in the scope of the regulations are the following activities:

  • Installation
    • Service & Maintenance
    • Refrigerant Recovery
    • Leak Checking

Since January 2010, all relevant personnel involved in the installation, service and maintenance of RAC systems must have a recognised Fgas handling Qualification (QQI/FETAC, City & Guilds or Other European Equivalent)

 Programme Description

This programme has been designed to provide the participant with the relevant knowledge, skill, and competence to work on their own initiative and without supervision, on RAC equipment that contains Fgas in accordance to the Fgas regulatory standards.

Programme Aim

The overall aim of this programme is to ensure participants have the ability and can demonstrate a working knowledge of (i) their legal responsibilities as per the EU Fgas regulations, (ii) how Fgas refrigerants impact on the environment and  (iii) how the use of Fgas refrigerant  impacts on the installation, operation, service and maintenance of RAC equipment.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants will able to:

  • Demonstrate the preventative maintenance knowledge required for a variety of vapour compression systems using Fgas and take corrective measures to prevent leakage of refrigerant(s).
  • Carry out intrusive work on Fgas refrigeration equipment, including the fitting of major components.
  • Carry out leak detection and refrigerant recovery on Fgas refrigeration equipment in compliance with current EU and national regulations
